October 6, 2012 – Beautiful light
Ceiling light at a cafe in Hampton. I haven’t the foggiest on what the name of the cafe was, so I can’t give my usual link or review. I went for a tour down to Hampton with a friend to find some op shop bargains. The only person in our family who scored anything from the outing was Amelia.
Back to the photo… the light has a beautiful art-deco feel doesn’t it.
September 11, 2012 – Dog on the run
The dog doesn’t belong to the sunbakers and just happened to be careering through. I got the perfect moment huh!
August 29, 2012 – In shadow
I took a couple of shots today that I really loved, but this is my favourite.
August 28, 2012 – Court
Afternoon sunlight at the local basketball court on one of our first days with a hint of springtime warmth.
August 26, 2012 – Chapel st unearthed
Over this weekend Chapel st was closed from Dandenong Rd all the way up to Commercial/Malvern Rd. They dug up the road and replaced the tram tracks – apparently the last time new tracks were put down was 1974.
Many shops closed for the five days while they worked round the clock replacing tracks and re-concreting. It was quite disconcerting as it really changed the atmosphere on Chapel st itself (obviously), as well as on all the side streets – damn eerie!
August 25, 2012 – Alannah Hill window
For those who are not familiar with Alannah Hill’s designs – they are exceedingly girly and ultra feminine. The current window display at their Chapel St store is simply gorgeous with all these fresh spring flowers suspended in glass jars.
August 13, 2012 – Almost closing
Today was our first wedding anniversary and we treated ourselves to dinner at St Kilda restaurant Golden Fields. Loved it, loved it, loved it – what a fitting place to celebrate our love.
August 12, 2012 – Green wall
This is the outside of the fun Windsor cafe/bar Tyranny Of Distance which is a converted petrol station. The green wall caught my eye today as we went for a late afternoon walk to catch the last of the winter sun.
August 10, 2012 – Roses
I bought this beautiful bouquet for a friend’s birthday today. They just screamed at me, albeit very softly and serenely. She loved them.
August 8, 2012 – Street wee
Ha ha. Someone is playing smart with their street art in this alcove off Chapel st.
August 5, 2012 – Reflections in the gutter
I have many shots of reflections in my blog and there’s about to be two in a row. I love how they are a window to a different world.
August 4, 2012 – Skeleton tiles
If you want an “it” restaurant in Melbourne it almost certainly needs to be a Mexican one. Salsas and Mad Mex have the tex-mex covered but restaurants like Mamasita and Señoritas step it up a bit and offer more sophisticated Mexican fare. I have never been able to get a table at Mamasita (I’ve got a baby – when I get a babysitter – time is money!) but Saturday night we tried the latter where you can book a table in advance. The decor was fantastic (as above in the toilets) and the restaurant had a great vibe and the food was good, but I don’t really get the love affair with Mexican cuisine – it really didn’t floor me.
For those interested in reading more about the use of the Mexican Day of the Dead imagery used at Señoritas here is an informative post from the WordPress blog Black Calavera: The Skull Project.
August 3, 2012 – Waiting
I had lunch with a friend in Richmond today and as we walked down Lennox St we approached this lovely old building; I thought – perfect old building to shoot – inadvertently I also snapped a girl waiting in the sun.
July 27, 2012 – Sleepy street
There is a sweet little deli around the corner from our place. Windsor Deli is run by Alan and Kat you can always be guaranteed good coffee and a smile by them and their staff.
Amelia and I sat inside today to avoid the rain while I enjoyed my morning coffee.
July 26, 2012 – Curious face
I love this shot of Amelia. We were just out strolling and I saw her watching a building on the other side of the street. She’s so deep in concentration.
July 24, 2012 – Blossoms
It feels like spring has stuck a toe in the door and is slowly inching back into the room. Some blossoms have started flowering and I can see all the jasmine buds all tight and ready to open as the weather warms.
It’s familiar to me, but my actual knowledge leaves a bit to be desired. Is there anyone who knows what kind of tree this is?
